The revered tuatara - the last from a line of reptiles going back to the dinosaurs - only found in New Zealand.
Complete with waxed braid cord with carved bone toggle, a traditional woven presentation case and a detailed description of the meaning of the carving.

The tuatara is one of the oldest inhabitants of the new land created by Maui and as such it is held in great respect. It is a master of concealment and regarded as the ugly/scary progeny of Punga - son of Tangaroa the god of the sea. Tuatara were feared because of their appearance and as such were regarded as a guardian figure.
Carved from treated and polished domestic cow bone.
